feminism

Then the Lord said,

It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him (Genesis 2:18, NLT).

The Lord created men and women to be in unity together. Man had a need. He was alone. He was incomplete. And the woman was created to step in and help meet that need (and in doing so glorify God). As a helper, as a partner, as a supporter. I’m not talking intimacy, dating, or marriage relationships between men and women. I’m talking about men and women working together and complimenting each other within society.

Modern Feminism has gotten it wrong.

But doesn’t the Bible advocate for men and women to be equal? YES! Equal. Counterparts. Co-heirs of Christ (Biblical Femininity). Women should have a place at the table. Their voice should be heard. Absolutely. I’m not talking about advocating for women’s rights or women’s equality here. I am talking about the idea in which radical modern feminism suggests that men are to be blamed for how women are viewed in our culture, and that women should use their power to rule over men.

Something is very wrong with this picture. God created both men and women with very specific purposes. And as women, we have an important calling to not only be who God created us to be, but also to encourage who God created men to be!

The danger comes when we, as women, go to society to find our identity, and not The Source- The Lord. The standard for femininity is not set by men. Nor is it set by other women. Our standard for femininity can only be found in God himself and in who He says we are.

Yes, our world will always get it wrong. Justice should (and will) be served for the evil that exists. But contrary to what modern feminism wants us to believe, men are not the problem.

As Allie Stuckey states in her podcast, “our biggest issue is that we are dead sinners without Christ, and we don’t get a pass for being women” (Why Feminism Will Fail You). Men are not the problem. Sin is the problem.

So, while many will cling to the feminist movement as a way to feel stronger, heard, or more empowered, together let’s seek who we are in Christ first and not allow our culture to dictate that for us.
